Professional Biography
Dr. Adel Shervin is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, endometriosis surgeon and researcher, and international educator in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). For more than 40 years, he has dedicated his career to advancing women’s health through complex surgical care, scientific inquiry, humanitarian service, and the training of young surgeons. His work spans the United States, the Middle East, Africa, and China, bringing together clinical expertise and a sustained commitment to sharing knowledge across borders.
With more than 4,500 advanced gynecologic laparoscopic procedures, Dr. Shervin brings extensive experience in MIGS and in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of endometriosis. His approach places the patient at the center of care, with deep concern for the suffering, personal priorities, and quality of life of women living with the disease. Alongside his clinical work, he has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed endometriosis research published in Fertility and Sterility, American Journal of Reproductive Immunology, Molecular Human Reproduction, and BMC Women’s Health, reflecting a longstanding commitment to advancing understanding as well as treatment.
Developing centers for endometriosis care and women’s health has been a defining part of his international work. At Farmanieh Hospital in Tehran, his leadership has included chairing the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Surgery, directing the Advanced Gynecologic Laparoscopy Fellowship Training Program he founded in 2005, and leading the National Endometriosis Referral and Treatment Center. These programs have trained numerous surgeons across the region, extending the reach of specialist expertise through successive generations of clinicians.
An invited speaker, scientific manager, surgical trainer, and mentor, Dr. Shervin has shared his experience at ISGE, ESGE, and other international forums. He has also organized numerous national and international meetings in Iran, creating opportunities for surgical education and professional exchange. His humanitarian work and international teaching reflect a common purpose: to expand access to skilled, compassionate care and strengthen the education of young surgeons. He is deeply committed to helping trainees develop their operative skills, clinical judgment, and responsibility toward the patients they serve.
His teaching also reaches beyond the operating room through his YouTube channel, Advanced Gynecologic Laparoscopic Surgery. Despite numerous suggestions to monetize the channel, he has kept it unmonetized and accessible to young surgeons without charge, reflecting his commitment to education and support for the next generation. With 143 videos, more than one million views, and approximately 2,870 subscribers, the channel provides an accessible resource for surgeons around the world to study operative demonstrations, deepen their understanding of endometriosis surgery, and refine their MIGS techniques.*
His academic appointments include honorary professorships at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the Avicenna Fertility & Infertility Research Institute, and the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China. He has served as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of ISGE’s The Trocar Journal, as a member of the ISGE Executive Committee Board, and as Chairman of the ISGE Accreditation Council.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Shervin held department chairmanships at hospitals across the United States and taught at Women & Infants Hospital and Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University. He earned his medical degree from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and completed his residency at Maryland General Hospital, with rotations at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins.
